A married couple were asleep when the phone rang at 2 in the morning.
The very blonde wife picked up the phone, listened a moment and said
'How should I know, that's 200 miles from here!' and hung up.

The husband said, 'Who was that?'
The wife answered, 'I don't know, some woman wanting to know if the coast is clear.'

History

Emmanuel Radnitzky, AKA Man Ray (1890)

Radnitzky was a photographer, painter, and filmmaker better known in the art world as Man Ray. After forming the New York Dada group with Marcel Duchamp in 1917, he moved to Paris and became associated with the Surrealists. By placing objects on light-sensitive paper and exposing them to sunlight, he created "cameraless" pictures called "rayographs." He later turned to portrait and fashion photography, extensively documenting Parisian celebrities.

DAILY SQU-EEK

If You Were Born Today, August 27

You are emotional and sensitive, sometimes to the point of drama, but the people around you love you for it. In fact, you can achieve the greatest success when you are able to express your creativity and your sense of drama in your line of work. Strong emotions can trip you up at times, but if channeled well, can lead to great success. You can sometimes be a "mother hen", caring for others and worrying that they're safe and happy. Loving, passionate, and warm, life would be dull indeed without you! Even so, you can be difficult to know at times, possibly because you wear your feelings on your face, and they are not always indicative of reactions to the company you're keeping but rather they're more in line with your thoughts. Misunderstandings can be frequent as a result. You are keenly sensitive, but not only in a self-centered way - you also pick up subtle emotional cues surrounding others, and this may be the reason that you're so thoughtful. You are a visionary, and you promote love, harmony, and equality. In love, you are attracted to, or you attract, people who are success-oriented, accomplished, and practical. Famous people born today: Martha Raye, Tuesday Weld, Barbara Bach, Aaron Paul, Alexa Vega, Sarah Chalke.

CROCKPOT RECIPE

CrockPot Peanut (Not Brittle) Candy

I made some really good candy the other day, with all of the ingredients you would use to make peanut brittle. But the crockpot doesn't really get hot enough to make peanut brittle, so you get this awesome chewy fudgey peanut wonderfulness which is an awful lot like a Payday candy bar.

The Ingredients.

There's a lot of sugar here. Because it's CANDY.

--3 cups of sugar (Baker's sugar has finer granules and will dissolve well)
--1 cup light corn syrup
--4 cups of your favorite nuts (I used 3 cups dry roasted lightly salted peanuts and 1 cup raw almonds. because I care about health.)
--4 Tbl butter
--2 tsp vanilla extract
--2 tsp baking soda

--parchment paper or Release foil

The Directions.

I used my 6 quart Smart Set crockpot for this. I like the Smart Set because I can set it for 30 minute intervals and it will beep for me when the 30 minutes is done. And I seem to need the beeps, because I tend to wander off if I find something shiny.

Drop the 4 tablespoons of butter into your crockpot. Add the sugar and the corn syrup on top of the butter. Pour in the vanilla.

Cover your crockpot and turn to high for one hour.

Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper or release foil.

After an hour, stir well to mix everything around. Add the baking soda. It will sizzle and make fun noises.
Your sugar mixture will be kind of milky-yellow and the sugar might still look granulated.

Cover again and cook on high for another 30 minutes. Check and stir in nuts.
Cover and cook again for another 15-30 minutes, or until the sugar mixture is brown and looks the color of peanut brittle. Or a payday candy bar.

Stir in your nuts.

Then, USING OVEN MITTS, carefully (CAREFULLY! seriously---use the oven mitts) pour half of the pot onto each cookie sheet and spread out with a spatula. It will be lumpy.because there are nuts.

Let cool at room temperature for about an hour, then tear into pieces.

Prepare to be amazed.

The Verdict.

This makes about 3 pounds of candy. Everyone who tried it (10 of us, minus my cousin who for some reason doesn't care for nuts) couldn't get enough. It's quite tasty. I'd like to make it again, but melt semi-sweet or dark chocolate in the mini 1.5 quart crock to pour out and then layer the candied nuts on top. mmm.

FOURTH DEGREE
A blonde was bragging about her knowledge of state capitals.
She proudly says, 'Go ahead, ask me, ... I know 'em all.'

A friend says, 'OK, what's the capital  of  Wisconsin?'
The blonde replies,'Oh, that's easy .. it's   W.'

SEVENTH DEGREE
Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house ransacked and
burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime.
The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio and a K-9 unit, patrolling nearby,
was the first to respond.

As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on
the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then sat down on the steps.
Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, 'I come home to find all my possessions stolen.
I call the police for help and what do they do?
They send me a BLIND  policeman!'

DELIGHTFUL WAYS WE REFER TO GROUPS OF ANIMALS
A group of hummingbirds is known as a charm, a glittering, a bouquet, or a tune.

What is a congregation? If you said it is a group of people who gather together for religious worship, you are correct. It is also a group of alligators. Although alligators are not known to assemble for worship, they are social creatures. So it is not too far of a stretch to call a group of them a congregation, is it? Crows are intelligent birds that often live together in family groups. Breeding pairs of crows cooperate to build nests and raise their young. What name would you assign to a group of crows? Would you call them a murder? Some historians believe that crows earned this designation because of ancient superstitions that labeled the black birds as omens of death. Alligators and crows are not the only animals that have interesting group names. Can you imagine how each of the following groups got its name?
An ambush of tigers
A glittering of hummingbirds
A bed of worms
A bike of hornets
A bouquet of pheasants
A dazzle of zebras
A descent of woodpeckers
An escargatoire of snails
A gang of turkeys
A gaze of raccoons
A hover of trout
A kettle of circling vultures
A kindle of kittens
A lamentation of swans
A mess of iguanas
A parliament of rooks
A pitying of turtledoves
A plump of waterfowl
A scream of swifts
A stubbornness of rhinoceroses
A tower of giraffes
An unkindness of ravens
A wisdom of wombats
