DIANE'S CORNER ... Celebrate Lost Sock Memorial Day

It’s inevitable – for every load of laundry you sort through, there are odd socks. Over time, you may even find that you end up with entire drawers and storage boxes filled with odd socks. But worry not! Lost Sock Memorial Day is all about commemorating the other (lost) halves of the pairs of socks which are still with us. Here’s to their memory.

History

The Palermo Stone


The Palermo stone is the largest known fragment of an ancient Egyptian stele containing the earliest extant historic annals. It was engraved around the 25th century BCE and includes a hieroglyphic listing of the kings of ancient Egypt, the years of their reigns, notations of historic events, and information pertaining to the flooding of the Nile. The stone was so named because it is housed in a museum in Palermo, Italy.

Gopal Krishna Gokhale (1866)


Gokhale was an Indian nationalist leader. A moderate, he stressed negotiation and conciliation rather than non-cooperation or violence—views that clashed with the more militant ideas of Bal Gangadhar Tilak. Gokhale was instrumental in founding the Servants of India Society, a nationalist organization whose members, sworn to poverty and obedience, were enlisted to serve as volunteers for the social, political, and economic welfare of India.

The El Atazar Dam is an arch dam near Madrid, Spain, on the Lozoya River, close to where the Lozoya joins the Jarama. Built in a narrow gorge between 1968 and 1972, the dam is 440 feet (134 m) high and 171.6 feet (52.3 m) wide at the foundation. It has a reservoir capacity of 344,000 acre feet (424,000,000 m3).

    Love the kid friendly Lava Lamp project. I have some vegetable oil I don't intend to use because I have switched to only coconut oil and olive oil. This will put it to good use. Now I only need to buy the seltzer tabs.
