Amedeo Avogadro (1776)

Hora at Prislop
The Hora is a dancing festival held at Mount Prislop at the Transylvania-Moldavia border in Romania. The dancers of the hora carry big rings that symbolize the friendship of the people of the regions of Moldavia, Maramures, and Transylvania. The top artistic groups gather at Prislop Pass to present a parade in colorful folk costumes and then a program of songs and dances, ending with the lively peasant horas.

The equirectangular projection is a simple map projection attributed to Marinus of Tyre, who Ptolemy claims invented the projection about AD 100. Bryan Geiger’s early morning visit to the summit area of Haleakalā volcano in Hawaii’s Haleakalā National Park yielded this extraordinary image of an otherworldly landscape. “I woke up at 3 a.m. and drove to Haleakalā summit,” Geiger writes. “As the sun came up it revealed only a white wall of mist. After a couple of hours, disappointed and cold, I decided to leave. While driving back I jumped out at the overlook to see if anything had changed. At that moment the clouds retreated and I had only an instant to snap this photo of the [alien-looking] land.”

Here’s a quick and easy DIY toy to make today: Paper Helicopters! They are a wonderful and easy engineering project for kids!
Here’s how to make these fun little guys:
Paper Helicopter
Materials
- Construction paper or card stock
- Paper clips
- Tape
- Scissors
Guide: We actually found that the bigger they were the better they flew. A 2″ by 8″ piece of paper was just right. Here are the proportions we used, you can increase or decrease them as desired. Cut along all solid lines. Fold along dotted lines as shown in the next steps. You may want to lightly score the dotted lines to make folding easier.
Instructions
- Step One Cut your paper and draw guide.
- Step Two Fold section D along long dotted line
- Step Three Fold Section C along long dotted line
- Step Four Fold Section A along dotted line towards you
- Step Five Fold Section B along dotted line away from you
- Step Six Fold bottom edge of section C/D towards you
- Step Seven Tape folded end of C/D I couldn’t resist adding a little flair with some decorative tape.
- Step Eight Add a paper clip to the taped end
You’re done! Take them outside and throw them like you would throw a ball or paper airplane. They should spin like a helicopter to the ground! If you have a two story space you can also drop them down and watch them spin.
Don’t forget to try making them in different sizes; that’s part of the fun!

My name is Jesuso and live in Malaga, Spain. When looking at everyday objects (especially flowers) awakens in me a world of creative possibilities reflected in my work.
I like to create fantasy scenes from these objects. It is a way of telling stories with a single image. In addition, objects and real flowers produce a 3D effect in the illustrations that makes them much more attractive. I really like the simplicity, convey a feeling with minimal essence.
Each person is the creator of your reality, there are many more possibilities than our eyes allow us to see. I invite you to regain your inner child curiosity. Wake up your mind!
