Image result for Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs Signed (1961)
In 1961, representatives from 73 nations met at United Nations headquarters to draft an international treaty to fight the production, trade, and use of illegal drugs. Their comprehensive convention replaced a prior patchwork of treaties and was entered into force in 1964. It was amended in 1972 and now has more than 180 signatories. Despite its sweeping breadth, the document contains a significant ambiguity that has been interpreted differently by various nations.

Gangaur is one of the highlights of the festival year in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is observed in celebration of Gauri, another name for Parvati, Shiva's wife. This is largely a girls' and women's festival, but boys and men get to enjoy the elaborate processions that take place in cities around the state, such as Jaipur. The festival continues for 18 days, during which women fast, dress in their best clothes, adorn themselves with intricate henna designs, and pray. The festival culminates with feasting and processions of the goddess's image that celebrate the union of Gauri and Shiva.

DAILY SQU-EEK

If You Were Born Today, March 30
You are outgoing and assertive, yet you are also very mindful of others, sensitive, thoughtful, and require time for yourself to recharge your emotional batteries often. While you enjoy a challenge, you don't seek out making changes as readily as many Aries do. You are very protective of those you love, and you are an ardent, charming lover. Famous people born today: Vincent Van Gogh, Eric Clapton, Celine Dion, Warren Beatty, Norah Jones, Paul Reiser.

Today on my walk with Rosko, I expect to see our first bloomed flowers of the season, Snowdrops.

You'd think everyone living in Alaska was a master ice sculptor. That isn't 100% correct, but the state itself is home to the largest ice sculpting competition in the world. With hulking ice everywhere in Fairbanks, sculptors will go to work with their tools and create dozens of stunning displays. Even if your favorite isn't crowned the winner, you'll still see the finest ice sculptures a winter wonderland can offer.

Pictures of the day

Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter. As Van Gogh's work developed, he painted such subjects as still lifespeasant laborerslandscapesolive treeswheat fields, and sunflowers, and over time he used increasingly brighter colors. Van Gogh sold only one painting during his lifetime, and was considered a madman and a failure. However, since the early 20th century he has attained widespread critical and popular acclaim, and his works are among the world's most expensive paintings.

PUFF PASTRY KNISHES

  1. Yield:24 mini knishes

Ingredients

2 sheets puff pastry (1 box), thawed at room temperature
2 large yukon gold potatoes or 1 large russet (Idaho) potato
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
2 tsp olive oil
1/2 lb ground beef
2-3 Tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, or 1/2 large onion, finely diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 egg

Directions

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.
Remove puff pastry from freezer and let sit on counter for 20-30 minutes until it has softened a bit and can easily be unfolded.
Peel potatoes. Boil potatoes in salted water for 20 minutes, or until fork tender. Drain water and mash potatoes using a masher, ricer or heavy fork. Add 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper and 2 tsp olive oil to potatoes and mix.
In a large saute pan, heat olive oil. Saute onions and garlic until translucent. Add cumin, paprika, salt and pepper. Add meat and brown until cooked through.
Drain excess oil and liquid from meat.
Lightly roll out puff pastry with rolling pin. Cut each puff pastry sheet into 6 squares.
On each square add approximately 1-2 tsp of potato and 1-2 tsp of meat mixture. Fold each corner of the puff pastry square up until they touch. Pinch and twist tips down to form the knish.
Brush with lightly beaten egg. Bake until golden brown, around 25-30 minutes.

CRAFTS

Cute Bird Made Of Leftover Yarn

craftbits
Got too much yarn laying around? Don't know what to do will those pieces? This cute little yarn bird is super fun and easy to make.
Cute Bird Made Of Leftover Yarn

What you need

To make this yarn bird you'll need:

Yarn - 3-4 different colors,
Scissor,
Cardstock paper,
Ruler,
Craft glue,
Craft wire,
Craft pliers,
Beads - 2 black, medium size,
Needle and black thread.

Instructions

bird step (2)
Step -1: You will need to cut 3 pieces of cardstock paper. The width of the cardstock papers should be around 4-5 cm. Two cardstock papers should be of 10 cm and the other one 12 cm. The measurement will vary depending on the size of the bird. Use light colored yarn for the bottom (10 cm), dar colored yarn for the top (12 cm) and mixed fade colored yarns for the wings / sides (10 cm). Take different colored yarn and wrap them around the cardstock papers lengthwise. Keep wrapping them until they are thick enough (1cm thick in each side). Hold the yarns on the cardstock firmly and cut any one side. You will get a group of yarn strands. You will need to cut any one of the wrapped yarns from 10 cm cardstock first. Tie all the yarn groups on the center.
bird step (4)
Step-2: Take the 10 cm long yarn group (light colored for the bottom part) and place it on a flat surface horizontally. Take the dark colored group of yarns (12 cm, for the top part) and place it on the horizontal group of yarns vertically, right in the middle, creating a cross. Fold both yarn groups into half to them through their closed ends. Take small pieces of matching yarns to tie the folded yarns adjacent to their closed ends.
bird step (5)
Step-3: Now take the mixed colored wrapped yarn group and prepare it by cutting any one side and tying the center. Take the mixed yarn group and place on the the tied yarns from the previous step.
bird step (6)
Step-4: Take a small piece of paper (half of A-4 sized paper). Crumple the piece of paper and squeeze it to make it small. The size of the birds body depends on the crumpled paper size. Place the crumpled paper on top of the mixed yarn groups tied part. Hold the open ends of the yarn groups together tightly.
bird step (7)
Step-5: Take small piece of any colored yarn strand and tightly tie it around that end to join all the yarn groups together. Trim the end of the yarn groups to level them.
bird step (8)
Step-6:  Use 18 gauge craft wire to make the legs of the bird. Make a small cone shape from orange colored cardstock paper for the beak. And finally select 2 black beads of the same size to make the eyes of the bird. You will need needle and black thread to attach the eyes or you can also use glue to attach them.
bird step (9)
Step-7: Simply attach 2 black beads on both sides of the birds head using needle and matching thread. Attach the legs by bending the open ends of the legs and inserting it through the yarns of the lower part. And finally Glue the beak to complete the bird. Use different colored yarns to make different patterned birds.

CLEVER
With these easy to make biodegradable pots there's no need to go out and buy expensive peat pots. These are the perfect size for normal size seedlings. Big seeds like sunflower seeds are not suitable for a starter pot this size but that should be a given. This pot is perfect for starting seeds and can be planted directly into a bigger container or into ground soil. They cost almost nothing and are a great way to re-use something you would have thrown away anyway.
Step 1: Fold the roll into a square.Fold the roll into a square.
temp_-1212319922.jpg
Fold the roll in half one way. Then, fold it in half the other way, making sure the creases from the last fold line up and you have a square!

Step 2: Cut the roll in half.

Cut the roll into two parts.

Step 3: Cut out the flaps.

temp_243517064.jpg
Fold the roll in half one way and make a 3/4 inch cut, then fold the roll in half the other way and make another 3/4 inch cut. You should have 4 cuts in total on the bottom of your roll. Repeat this step on the other roll.

Step 4: Crease the flaps.

Crease the flaps.

temp_1435812527.jpg
temp_-197833522.jpg
Fold and unfold all of your flaps. This is to establish a flat, even, square bottom of the pot.Repeat this step on the other roll.

Step 5: Fold the flaps cardboard box style.

Fold the first three flaps down, overlapping each other. Fold the bottom flap down first, then fold the left flap down, overlapping the bottom flap, then fold the top flap down, overlapping the left flap. Now here's the tricky part. Fold the right flap under the bottom flap and over the top flap. This holds the pot together. Repeat this step on the other pot.

Step 6: Plant!

Plant!

You're now done with your two biodegradable pots and can add potting soil and sow your seeds. You can even make an army of pots like I did. Thank you for reading my instructable and don't forget to comment. This is my first instructable and I would love to hear your feedback!
