Every day, animals are abandoned or placed into kennels, dependent on charities and goodwill. Less than two months before he died, Bernstein, a highly regarded American composer and conductor, conducted what would be his final concert. He had suffered from smoking-related lung problems for years, and his coughing fit partway through the Boston Symphony appearance that night nearly ended the performance. With his health declining, he officially retired in early October, and he died just five days later.

DAILY SQU-EEK

If You Were Born Today, August 19
You are a big dreamer, and while you can worry and fret quite a bit in your youth, as you gain experience and connect with your inner code and spirituality, you become wise and more content. You are not always easy for others to understand! However, you do understand others instinctively. Your intuition is nothing short of outstanding. Even so, your mind is highly analytical. You are sensitive and warm, and a bit of a perfectionist. You dream big dreams, and sometimes are quite discontented with everyday realities. You can stretch the truth sometimes as a result. A natural leader, you tend to enjoy being the first to do new things. You have personal charisma, and whatever you do, your individuality shines through. You tend to attract hard-working, ambitious, and loyal partners into your life. Famous people born today: Coco Chanel, Matthew Perry, Bill Clinton, John Stamos, Gene Roddenberry, Tammin Sursok, Jonathan Frakes.

Windmill
Pitstone Windmill, believed to be the oldest windmill in the British Isles. A windmill is an engine powered by wind energy. In Europe, windmills have been used since the Middle Ages. They were developed from the 12th century, apparently from technology gained by crusaders who came into contact with windmills in the Middle EastPersian sources indicate windmill use as early as the 7th century BC. In the United States, the development of water-pumping windmills was a major factor in allowing the farming of vast areas of North America

These soft chewy cookies are the perfect consistency when frozen for ice cream sandwiches. They are also delicious on their own.

CAKE MIX COOKIE RECIPE

1 box Devil’s Food Cake Mix (I like Duncan Hines or Aldi’s Store brand best)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional for ice cream sandwiches but a must for the cookies without ice cream)
ice-cream-sandwiches-1.jpg
Mix together dry cake mix, 1/2 cup oil and 2 eggs. Stir in chocolate chips. I use a cookie scoop to make the balls. This recipe makes 20 cookies.

Bake cookies at 350 for about 11-13 minutes (Cookies are soft). Chill cookies completely before making ice cream sandwiches —-otherwise they are heavenly warm!

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE ICE CREAM SANDWICHES

To make ice cream sandwiches, take your favorite 1/2 gallon ice cream in a block and slice it into about 1 inch slices.

Grilling Season is Here!

Onion Magic
Inline image

Before you start grilling your food, slice an onion in half. Then stick one half on a fork and rub along the top of your grill. This creates a non-stick layer, which will help stop your food from sticking to the grill. When you are done grilling, use the other half of the onion to scrub off the food remnants.
